About The Book
Following many years of research this book examines the life of the late Archbishop Makarios III, since his early years and the factors that affected his personality. It gives detail account of Makarios’ university years in Athens during WWII and his election initially as Bishop and soon after as Archbishop of the Orthodox church of Cyprus in 1950. Since then and for the following 27 years he became the leading figure in Cypriot affairs.
In the 26 chapters of this 600-page of the 28 x 22 cm book, a new image of Makarios emerges that is not what hitherto his autobiographers and mythmakers presented. The book examines Makarios’ relationship with the successive Greek, British and Turkish governments, he attitude towards the 1967-71 junta in Greece, his relationship with General Grivas and his handling of the internal situation and since his election as President of Cyprus in 1960.
Discover the extraordinary journey of Archbishop Makarios III—his formative years, rise through the Orthodox Church, and pivotal role in shaping Cyprus over nearly three decades. This compelling book, built on years of research, offers an in-depth look at the man behind the legacy.

Απαντούνται τα ερωτήματα γιατί ο Μακάριος αποφάσισε μετωπική σύγκρουση με τον Ιωαννίδη και γιατί ο τελευταίος τον ανέτρεψε πραξικοπηματικά; Ποιο ρόλο έπαιξαν οι Ετζεβίτ, Μακάριος, Callaghan, Wilson, Kissinger και Γκρομίκο στην πρώτη φάση της Τουρκικής εισβολής (Αττίλας Ι); Ποια ήταν η στάση των ΗΠΑ, της Βρετανίας, της Τουρκίας, των Σοβιετικών, του ΝΑΤΟ και του ΟΗΕ στο μεσοδιάστημα και κατά τη δεύτερη φάση της εισβολής (Αττίλας ΙΙ); Ποια ήταν η στάση της χούντας, του Καραμανλή και του Μακαρίου κατά τον Αττίλα ΙΙ;
